Formed in El Sobrante, California, Primus developed an unmistakable blend of funk, progressive rock, punk energy, and experimental humor around bassist and singer Les Claypool. Albums such as Sailing the Seas of Cheese, Pork Soda, and Tales from the Punchbowl pair eccentric storytelling with intricate rhythms and Claypool’s highly distinctive playing. Songs including “My Name Is Mud” and “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver” helped make the band one of alternative rock’s most original acts.
